You Count

Overview

You Count is a collaborative research project led by the California State Library's California Homeless Youth Project (CHYP). YAAH student investigators, based at Innovations for Youth (i4Y) at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, collaborated with CHYP to to connect with community-based organizations in Continuums of Care throughout the state to better understand the needs of youth and young adults experiencing homelessness with the overarching goal of creating a more accurate estimate of this invisibilized population. . We collected qualitative and quantitative data to tell the story of youth and young adult homelessness in California. CHYP's Youth Homelessness Dashboard integrates publicly available data from HUD's Point in Time Count, California's Homelessness Data Integration System, and the California Department of Education. Our aim was to connect with community-based organizations in Continuums of Care throughout the state to better understand the needs of youth and young adults experiencing homelessness with the overarching goal of creating a more accurate estimate of this invisibilized population.
