You Count Project
You Count is a collaborative research project led by the California State Library's California Homeless Youth Project (CHYP). YAAH student investigators, based at Innovations for Youth (i4Y) at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health, collaborated with CHYP to to connect with community-based organizations in Continuums of Care throughout the state to better understand the needs of youth and young adults experiencing homelessness with the overarching goal of creating a more accurate estimate of this invisibilized population. . We collected qualitative and quantitative data to tell the story of youth and young adult homelessness in California. CHYP's Youth Homelessness Dashboard integrates publicly available data from HUD's Point in Time Count, California's Homelessness Data Integration System, and the California Department of Education. Our aim was to connect with community-based organizations in Continuums of Care throughout the state to better understand the needs of youth and young adults experiencing homelessness with the overarching goal of creating a more accurate estimate of this invisibilized population. You can check out the You Count Dashboard here.

Covid-19 Community Report(link is external)
YAAH completed a pilot web-based survey of youth experiencing homelessness (YEH) in Alameda and San Francisco Counties. Our findings regarding how the pandemic affected YEH’s trajectory to adulthood was released in a community report in May 2023. The survey pilot served as a model for conducting community-based surveys of YEH, particularly for those youth not engaged in service-based organizations (link to projects page). We are in the progress of publishing 2 papers regarding the survey results and the methods’ feasibility. Below is our community report, which summarizes key findings. We encourage you to share the report in your networks widely!
